Professional UK immigration advice for ministers of religion, missionaries, members of religious orders and faith organisations preparing sponsored religious work applications, extensions and settlement planning.
Review whether the role, sponsor licence, Certificate of Sponsorship, English evidence and maintenance position are ready before submission.
The Minister of Religion (T2) Visa is for religious leaders, missionaries and members of religious orders who have been offered an eligible role within a UK faith community by a licensed sponsor.
This route is suitable where the work is mainly religious or pastoral in nature, such as leading worship, preaching, performing rites and rituals, missionary work, or carrying out duties as part of a religious order. It is not the same as the temporary Religious Worker route and should be assessed carefully before a sponsor assigns a Certificate of Sponsorship.
At Access Global, we help applicants, faith organisations and sponsor licence holders review whether the role, Certificate of Sponsorship, English language evidence, maintenance funds and family arrangements are ready before the application is submitted.
A successful application depends on both the applicant and the sponsoring organisation meeting the route requirements. The role must be genuine and suitable for this route, the Certificate of Sponsorship must be valid, and the applicant must satisfy identity, English language, financial and suitability requirements.
The strongest applications are prepared by checking the religious role, sponsor licence position, Certificate of Sponsorship wording, English language route, maintenance evidence and family evidence together before submission.
The Certificate of Sponsorship is central to the Minister of Religion application. It is not just a reference number; it sets out the sponsored role, sponsor details, start date, job description, pay information and other route-specific details.
Faith organisations should take care to choose the correct route. The Minister of Religion route is designed for ministers, missionaries and members of religious orders, while the Religious Worker route is temporary and cannot be used to fill a minister of religion role.
Most applicants must prove English at CEFR B2 level in reading, writing, speaking and listening. This can usually be shown through an approved English test, a qualifying degree taught in English, a qualifying UK degree, nationality from a recognised English-speaking country, or a previous successful visa application where English was already accepted.
Applicants relying on overseas degree evidence may need an approved qualification assessment. This should be checked early because delayed or incorrect English language evidence can affect the application timetable.
The main applicant normally needs £1,270 in personal funds unless they have held valid UK permission for at least 12 months or the sponsor confirms that it will cover maintenance for the first month in the UK.
Where dependants apply, the family should also plan for the dependant maintenance requirement: £285 for a partner, £315 for one child and £200 for each additional child, unless an exemption or sponsor-certified maintenance applies. The funds usually need to be held for 28 consecutive days, with the final day falling within 31 days before the application date.
Because religious workers and faith organisations may have varied salary, accommodation and support arrangements, we can review the financial position before submission and flag evidence gaps early.
The exact evidence depends on the applicant, sponsor, country of application, family members and whether the applicant is applying from overseas, switching or extending inside the UK. This section is intentionally high level because the safest document list should be prepared after reviewing the applicant’s actual facts and the sponsor’s Certificate of Sponsorship.
A strong application usually needs identity evidence, sponsor and role evidence, English language evidence, maintenance evidence where required, TB test evidence where applicable, family evidence for dependants, and certified translations for documents not in English or Welsh.
We can review the Certificate of Sponsorship, role description, English language evidence, maintenance position and dependant documents before the application is filed.
The visa fee depends on whether the application is made from outside the UK or inside the UK. Each dependant normally pays the same route fee as the main applicant. The healthcare surcharge is separate and is calculated according to the period of permission requested or granted.
A Minister of Religion visa can usually be extended before the current permission expires if the applicant continues to meet the route requirements and has a valid new Certificate of Sponsorship.
Extension planning should start early, especially where the sponsor licence, role description, dependant visas, maximum stay limit or settlement timing needs to be reviewed.
The route can lead to indefinite leave to remain after 5 years. Settlement is not automatic; the applicant must meet the relevant continuous residence, sponsorship, immigration status, English language, Life in the UK and suitability requirements at the time of application.
Applicants should not leave ILR planning until the final weeks of their visa. Early review can identify problems with absences, sponsor changes, role records, pay evidence, travel history or dependant timing.
We review the role, sponsor licence position, applicant profile and family plan to confirm whether this is the right route.
We check whether the role, duties, start date, sponsorship details and route category are presented clearly.
We assess English language, maintenance, TB, identity, immigration history and dependant evidence before submission.
We help structure the application, declarations, supporting explanation and evidence bundle so the case is clear.
We advise on future extension, sponsor changes, maximum stay, dependant timing and settlement readiness.
We can review the route choice, Certificate of Sponsorship, role duties, English evidence, maintenance position and dependant plan before the application is filed.
A person aged 18 or over can apply if they have an eligible job offer within a UK faith community and a valid Certificate of Sponsorship from a licensed sponsor. The role should normally involve religious or pastoral duties, missionary work or duties within a religious order.

Some non-visa nationals coming for 3 months or less with a valid sponsorship record may be able to use the concession. It should be checked carefully because it cannot be extended and has strict conditions.
A second job may be possible only in certain circumstances. The sponsored religious role must remain the main basis of permission and any additional work should be checked carefully.
Errors in the route choice, role description, duties, sponsor category, pay position or maintenance certification can create refusal and sponsor compliance risk. A pre-submission review helps identify these issues early.
